The best position?

Have you ever imagined yourself serving the queen of England? To be always by her side, to know everything she wants to do, to be always part of her life, to be the person she relies on the most, in short, to be her right hand? You would obviously have many benefits and obtain favours from people you barely know just because you are a person of influence and very powerful.

That’s what happened with Moses, who even though had his faults and didn’t even make it to the promised land, which he longed for his entire life. When he died and God transferred his position to Joshua, the Bible states the following:

“After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, it came to pass that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant…” (Joshua 1:1)

It’s interesting how the Bible describes Moses as the ‘servant of the Lord’ and Joshua as the ‘son of Nun, servant of Moses’. Joshua had been chosen by God to replace Moses and was amongst the few whom belonged to Moses’ generation, who witnessed the promise of God related to the promised land, and despite all of this, he was only acknowledged as the servant of the Lord after his death:

“Now it came to pass after these things that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being one hundred and ten years old.” (Joshua 24:29)

It becomes evident here that what matters to God is to remain serving Him until the end. Many serve God for a time, two times and even up to three times, but there comes a time when they become tired. They get tired of giving so much and receiving so little appreciation in return. Many assistants, pastors and even bishops have been tired of serving God and have gone back to serve themselves, for they think: ‘If I don’t take care of myself and my family, what would be made of us in the future?’

These are the children of so and so and not the servants of the Lord. The servant serves for all his life. It’s impossible to serve for a period of time only. How many women used to serve God when they were single and then stopped serving Him in order to serve their husbands and children… today they are weak in the faith. The truth is that we are only servants if we serve our entire lives.

Bearing this in mind, it’s impossible for you to serve with ‘second’ intentions. You serve without expecting anything in exchange or to be recognized. You serve simply for love, with faith that one day, God will call you His servant. What about the benefits? Besides the peace, the happiness and the intelligent faith that we conquer along the way, no one can touch you, nor even badmouth about you – what else could be better than this?

God bless you.
