Why do Christians fall? part 2

He went from invincible to vulnerable. Suddenly going to church was not fulfilling anymore. He started to skip a few services. Things were not as they were before. It felt repetitive.

His ‘old-friend’ called him again, but this time he accepted the invitation. It wasn’t long till he stopped going to the church altogether.”

This is a classic story within the church. The question that comes to mind is why do people keep falling in this trap? Why does someone who says he will never leave Jesus, change so dramatically?
And the answer is simple. They didn’t die. Only those who die to the world and to their own will can experience a new birth. The devil takes advantage of this because he knows each one of us well – after all he was with us in the past. He knows our weaknesses and he’ll try to relive the past that we buried with us in the baptism.

Those who are born of God are new creatures. They may be tempted, but they find the strength in the Spirit to resist. Those who are not born of God won’t be able to resist, because their flesh will speak louder.

This is one of the reasons why humbling before God is so important. Only those who are aware that they are nothing without God can be born again.

“But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Matthew 23:12

Next week: we’ll talk about the devil’s strategy, based on Jesus’ temptation. See you.

Quote of the Day

" The person determined to achieve maximum success learns the principle that progress is made one step at a time. A house is built one brick at a time. Football games are won a play at a time. A department store grows bigger one customer at a time. Every big accomplishment is a series of little accomplishments "
