When Looking Back Is Important

Today (Friday) after the morning service, in the middle of a conversation with a church member, he was telling me how one of his family members who is also attending the church has been blessed after starting to give tithe.

And he went on saying that he has come to the realization that sometimes people overlook the blessings that they receive, focusing only on the daily problems or the things that they haven’t achieved yet.

looking-back

He is right. Once in a while, I have counselled someone that feels disappointed because something they really wanted hasn’t happened yet. According to them, God is not hearing them, or He is not helping them. But more often than not, if you ask them to look back at how their life was before coming to Jesus, they recon that they were far worse than they are now.

In the meantime, they forget all the things that they have achieved – things that may seem smaller now than they really are, because they happened some time ago. Besides, when a problem is gone we move on with our lives and our tendency is to focus on the next one. We are never happy with what we have.

Those who are in Jesus are more than conquerors. That means that they don’t conquer just once, but they keep conquering as new challenges appear. And challenges will come – Jesus never promised a life without problems.

But the Bible also exhorts us to remember where we came from at all times.
“Listen to Me, you who follow after righteousness, you who seek the LORD: look to the rock from which you were hewn, and to the hole of the pit from which you were dug.”
Isaiah 51:1

On Sinai, God told Israel to celebrate the Passover – every family would eat a lamb with bitter herbs, remembering the bitter years they lived in Egypt. In the New Covenant, Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper, in which we hold the bread and the wine in remembrance of His sacrifice at the cross.

Dear friend, have you ignored the things God has done in your life? Have you taken the time to thank Him for that? Have you shared your testimony to inspire others? Or have you been distracted by your present challenges?

God will always bless and protect those who have a Covenant with Him.

Quote of the Day

" Vision without action is a dream. Action without vision is simply passing the time. Action with Vision is making a positive difference. "
