Do I Need To Go To Church If I Have The Holy Spirit? |

Two Christians met in the street. One asked the other, ‘what church do you attend?’ He replied, ‘I have the Holy Spirit. I don’t need to go to church.’ Is this thought correct? Do you not need to congregate if you have the Holy Spirit? Would the Holy Spirit inspire you to stop attending church and being on your own? The Scriptures say: |

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:23:25) Though some people look at the church as a secular institution, it is much more that. It is the body of Christ, the gathering of men and women who share the same faith and values – different members of the same body. As such, congregating is of great importance to the spiritual health of the Christian. Look at our body. Despite consisting of many organs with the most varied functions, they all work with the same goal. If you remove one of the organs, its absence will have to be compensated somehow – often, people have to take medication for life to make up for the loss. Then there’s cancer, which are cells that go ‘rogue’ and start fighting against the body. They can be responsible for the death of an individual. Jesus said that a house divided against itself cannot stand (Matthew 12:25). That said; ask yourself this question, why would the Holy Spirit tell you to do something that clearly disagreed with the Bible? Can God contradict Himself? The Holy Spirit will never lead a person to act differently from what is written in the Word of God, since His purpose is to zeal that the Scriptures are fulfilled. There are spirits that want people to stop congregating, but they are not the Holy Spirit. The devil is the only one that would benefit from this, since it’s much easier to prey on a single individual than on a group. So no. It is incorrect to say that those who have the Holy Spirit don’t need to go to church. If anything, those who have been baptised with the Holy Spirit are humble. They know that they need the church, and that the church needs them. God bless you all! |
